NATURAL HERITAGE FIELD ASSISTANT
Rouge Park Office, 50 Bloomington Rd. West, Aurora
Field work will take place in Scarborough.

Contract Position
NOTE: Due to HRDC Canada Summer Job program restrictions, candidate must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the time of hiring and returning to full-time studies for the 2008-2009 academic year.

SALARY RANGE: $12.06 per hour

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
The Natural Heritage Field Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Manager of Natural and Cultural Heritage for Rouge Park. This position will be responsible for participating in resource management activities which include vegetative inventory work, implementation of the Rouge Park restoration assessment program, deer browse surveys and providing general assistance to the Natural Heritage Manager. Working safely is a condition of employment.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Post secondary educational background in environmental and/or resource science, Zoology or other related field;
  • Plant identification skills, and familiarity with field monitoring techniques are an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Must have computer skills in word processing, and database management and entry; and,
  • Valid driver's licence required.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:
Perform the following tasks under general supervision.

  1. Assist with the implementation of the Rouge Park restoration assessment program throughout the watershed.
  2. Assist with the expansion of the electronic photographic library of restoration sites within the watershed.
  3. Assist with the field work associated with the coordination of vegetation monitoring work.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of Rouge Park and related environmental issues.
  5. Utilize organization and time management skills to meet deadlines, assist with planning and prioritizing tasks.
  6. Assist with Watershed Management Issues.
